5 Green Stars for Timber: Baw Baw’s New Development

25 August 2023

Project documentation finishes up on the Baw Baw Culture and Community Connection Precinct

We are thrilled to announce that we are in the final stages of documentation in delivering the $30M Library and Learning Centre with Croxon Ramsay as part of the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct for the Baw Baw Shire Council.

The council was inspired to deliver a 5 Green Star structure which led to a number of environmentally sustainable design initiatives being incorporated into the design strategy, the cornerstone of which was adopting a mass timber frame to form the superstructure of the building.

Working alongside leaders in the mass timber industry, Argall developed a structural solution for the mass timber frame which minimised the construction carbon footprint as well as maximising available points gained to assist with the design team’s wider Greenstar objectives.

Features of the new development include:

  • Community library, including a children’s library
  • Study Areas
  • Gallery and cultural space
  • Community meeting rooms
  • Consulting rooms
  • Co-working spaces
  • Café
  • Public terrace area.
  • Public amenities such and parent’s room
  • Changing Places facility
  • Plaza and pedestrian connection to the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

With documentation winding up keep up to date with the construction of the Baw Baw precinct here or on our LinkedIn.

Take a virtual walkthrough of the proposed design in the video below.

ANDREW GALL, Director

Argall was founded in 2017 by Andrew Gall, an engineer with a passion for complex design and breaking the mould. His work experience as a senior structural engineer across a variety of project disciplines made him realise there was a real need for a bespoke people and service-oriented structural engineering consultancy that would inspire sustainability practices and innovation often lacking in big companies.

This is over and above his experience in traditional procurement roles, his work with builders in the design and construct field, managing projects in sport, tertiary education, the arts and zoological fields, as well as community, commercial, residential and multi- residential enterprises. With such a wealth of knowledge and understanding of different design methodologies, he has the expertise to challenge the status quo in his new venture.
