Project Spotlight: Tapestry House,Toorak

7 March 2025

This home seamlessly blends heritage and modern design, featuring brick, concrete, and steel to create a timeless yet contemporary space.

We’re thrilled to share our work on Tapestry House in Toorak, a unique project in collaboration with Cera Stribley and LEONE Constructions. This home brings together modern design and enduring craftsmanship, weaving family heritage into every corner with raw materials like brick and concrete that ground its contemporary style.

Anchored by a solid piled basement, the structure uses post-tensioned slabs and steel framing to create open, flexible spaces. The vertical construction blends masonry, reinforced concrete, and steel for both strength and elegance. Tackling challenges like a staged construction sequence—where the basement was built before the full design was finalized—and balancing a mix of materials in the stability system required meticulous planning to keep everything in harmony.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, Tapestry House is a testament to what’s possible through thoughtful design, engineering, and collaboration.

ANDREW GALL, Director

Argall was founded in 2017 by Andrew Gall, an engineer with a passion for complex design and breaking the mould. His work experience as a senior structural engineer across a variety of project disciplines made him realise there was a real need for a bespoke people and service-oriented structural engineering consultancy that would inspire sustainability practices and innovation often lacking in big companies.

This is over and above his experience in traditional procurement roles, his work with builders in the design and construct field, managing projects in sport, tertiary education, the arts and zoological fields, as well as community, commercial, residential and multi- residential enterprises. With such a wealth of knowledge and understanding of different design methodologies, he has the expertise to challenge the status quo in his new venture.
