The Kalkallo Community Centre serves as a permanent hub catering to the needs of the expanding community. The center offers a diverse range of amenities, including function spaces available for casual or regular hire, flexible multipurpose meeting and function rooms in various sizes, a commercial kitchen, and consulting rooms to provide a platform for specialist services. Additionally, the center provides preschool rooms, maternal and child health facilities, and offers first aid training.
The project encompassed the construction of an expansive single-story structure. The building featured prominent structural steel frames, spanning the length of the interior, with the entire form supported by suspended concrete raft slabs, supported by bored piers. Additionally, the project involved the design of car parks and external play spaces, serving as a welcome addition to the Centre.

Addressing drainage issues were complex tasks as locating the building and understanding how compliant site access could be achieved while establishing an effective car park layout, given the elevation disparities between the site and discharge points. Additionally, the high reactivity of the natural founding material demanded thorough detailing of the ground floor slab to prevent heaving having any detrimental effects on the structure.
