Green Velvet
Argall was commissioned to assist with developing and designing a modular stage framing system for the purposes of the Green Velvet day part at Yarra Park surrounding the MCG and future productions. This was a project of passion for the Argall team as Green Velvet is one of Director Andrew’s all-time favorite DJs. This structure was then to be reused as part of the aside stage at the Beyond the Valley music festival later in the same year.
The structure consisted of a modular lightweight structural trussed frame with struts and tie positionings coordinated with lighting locations nominated by the lighting designer (along with service runs). This frame was then mounted to a traditional aluminum scaffold frame with counterweights.

In order to reduce framing sizes, but more importantly to reduce the size of counterweights, we worked with the organizers to develop a procedure for the dismantlement of the structure should wind speeds exceed a certain magnitude (i.e. to a point where the event wouldn’t be feasible). This enabled us to reduce the design site wind forces to a more practical level for the design of the structure and create a process and design that was still suitable for certification and approval by the council RBS.
