Coles Southland
Coles commissioned a full store upgrade to their store located at the Westfield Southland Shopping Centre in Cheltenham. As this was Argall BIM Manager Mike’s local shopping location, Argall was excited about the opportunity to be involved in this project. The project saw the existing store that was 16 years old, along with the adjacent Liquorworks, be fully dismantled and then re-established. This included a wide variety of upgrades including a new click-and-collect precinct in the car park externally.
The structural solution to the new fit-out works were complex and in some locations required detailed structural investigations of the existing structure as part of the upgrades. This brought about a redesign to the initial concept in some locations to best work with the existing structure, plant areas, and construction joint locations.

The composition of the existing structure posed some issues with the proposed installation. In addition to working through these issues, there were also boundary conditions set by the lessor around fixings and loading that need to adhere to, and in some cases approved by the third party.
As part of this development, Coles also introduced a new bulkhead system using products from Knotwood. As part of our role, we were required to undertake a detailed structural investigation and modelling into this product to then design a new custom fixing and installation methodology that could be used across this and future stores.
