Coburg City Oval
Established in 1915, Coburg City Oval has served generations of Aussie Rules football and Cricket fans as a communal sporting facility.
Following a fire that damaged the heritage listed grandstand in 2003, the facility required restoration and upgrades to continue its century long servitude as an open community facility to Coburg.
The Social Space works to maintain a sense of being in the stands, while creating a comfortable place to watch the game or simply engage with the community. The restorations included a fully openable façade with a bar ledge along its sill, imagining the cheers and the breeze on a good day. The original steel roof trusses and brick wall of the of the rear of the stand remain exposed, as a homage to the facilities historical significance.
